Conveyance Arts in Bangladesh, Indi...

Conveyance Arts in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan: Cycle rickshaws, baby taxis, temps, and trucks. Joanna Kirkpatrick, Cultural Anthropologist, PhD U.C. Berkeley, USA, did research in India and Bangladesh. Last 30 years at work researching Bangladeshi ricksha arts and allied conveyance arts, such as trucks, boats, other vehicles -- comparing them across cultures. Published scholarly and popular articles on ricksha art. "All artwork is 20th c. Materials were acrylic or oil paints on recycled metal sheets, often printer discards. In the 1980s to 90s printed “filmi” posters were being pasted on rickshaw backboards. Country and city name is given where known. Sites of photos were main roads in Dhaka or from mistri shops in Bongshaal Rd., Dhaka. In Chittagong, photos of rickshaw art were shot on main streets and in the then poster artist and mistri street in Chittagong. Rajshahi photos were from main streets (names unknown to me), and also from one artistshop, Robu Art (this is specified in the text); Pabna images were photographed on main streets by a Pabna journalist (his site recorded but now sold off, see gallery for Pabna), used with permission. India truck photos were from Kerala State, permission of photographer Kathryn Myers. No other metadata was recorded." Joanna Kirkpatrick
