Subject: View of the lake. The Chinese pilgrim Xuanzang identified a lake outside the enclosure walls as lake of Naga (Serpent) king Muchilinda who kept guard over Buddha with his folds seven times over the body of Buddha. Today a lake, immediately south of the temple is called the Muchilinda Lake. It has a modern image of Buddha protected by Muchilinda in its center.
