Subject: Variety of Tussar - Modal Fukhi. Tussar silk is a wide variety of silk extracted from silkworms feeding on local trees like Sal, Arjun and Saja. Tussar silk has a rich coarse texture and a natural deep gold color. Odisha is one of the major Indian states that produces silk. Modal fukhi is considered a lesser quality cocoon from which ghicha tussar is prepared. This object has been procured from Bhagamunda Tasar Rearers Cooperative Society (TRCS) Ltd.

Subject: Collapsible Chandrika with Eri Cocoons . A chandrika is a bamboo or straw tray or mountage on which ripe silkworms are placed to facilitate the spinning of their cocoons. The silkworms are mounted on the chandrika making it easy for them to anchor their filament as they spin their cocoons. These are stored vertically. This object has been procured from Bhagamunda Tasar Rearers Cooperative Society (TRCS) Ltd.

Subject: Silk Yarn . Natural dyes are colorants derived from plants, invertebrates, or minerals. The mordant and fabric type affects the dye adherence, fastness properties and shades.

Subject: Cotton Yarn . The natural coloring matter of silk is associated mainly with sericin which is eliminated during degumming. However, even after degumming, the residual pigments are adsorbed by fibroin and hence silk fabrics after degumming are not white but have cream or gray hue. Bleaching silk uses reducing agents or oxidizing agents to lighten the hue of the thread.

Subject: Traditional Original Silk Khandua. In the saree, motifs of das phulia (ten flowers) are formed in dobby technique while the motifs of elephant, deer, lion and flower on the anchal (end) are woven in tie and dye technique. An extra warp of tussar is used in the border. In the body, motifs of small flowers are woven in check pattern. This Badhi Kumbha Buti saree is woven by Sri Gangadhar Meher of Banahar village, Bargarh district of Odisha. This saree was procured from Gangadhar Meher.

Subject: Sapta Bandhodaya Saree . Saree with motifs of the Konark wheel and Jagannatha temple. The saree is predominantly in black in color.

Subject: Tussar Fodakumbha Butadar Saree . The fodakumbha saree is traditional saree from Odisha. It has a 'kumbha' or temple design border that have sharp ends. This saree's body is also adorned with small textured motifs woven with dobby loom.

Subject: Ikat Frame . A painting made of an ikat fabric. Ikat is a method of wrapping yarns to form area of resist, and then dyeing these sections of yarns before the weaving of a cloth begins. Single ikat fabric are created by interweaving tied and dyed warp with plain weft or resisted weft yarns is inserted in plain warp. This object was procured from Utkalika, Odisha State Co-operative Handicraft Corporation Ltd.

Subject: Woman Carrying Bobei Rasi . Dhokra is a craft made by the lost-wax casting technique in which a molten metal is poured into a mold that has been created by means of a wax model. This craft has a tribal lineage and flourishes in the tribal belts of Odisha. This is a figure of a woman carrying bobei rasi (rope made of bobei grass that grows in Odisha's Mayurbhanj region) on her head. Front view of the figurine. Subject: Gurunda and Ukhulu. An ukhulu is the mortar which is the bowl component and a gurunda is the pestle which is the club-shaped component of mortar and pestle. They are used to prepare ingredients or substances by crushing and grinding them into a fine paste or powder. This object was procured from the Assistant Director of Textiles Zonal Office, Baripada who procured it from Mudrajodi village of Mayurbhanj district.
