Subject: Bamboo Bichhana (Fan). This fan is made from decorating several palm leaves. The ethnic art form of palm leaf engraving essentially consists of inscribing designs on palm-leaf. The artists of palm leaf etchings use themes of mythological incidents, gods and goddesses figures. This object has been procured from State Institute for Development of Arts & Crafts (SIDAC).

Subject: Natural Dyed Pomegranate Cotton Fabric. Natural dyes are colorants derived from plants, invertebrates, or minerals. The mordant and fabric type affects the dye adherence, fastness properties and shades. The pomegranate skin yields a matte green-yellow color. The object was placed in the museum collection storage at the time of photography. This object has been gifted by Boyanika (Odisha State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society Ltd).

Subject: Mat. Golden grass is a wild grass found in many riverside villages of Odisha. The dried up grass strands are used to make decorative and utility items such as this table mat. This object was procured from Utkalika, Odisha State Co-operative Handicraft Corporation Ltd.

Subject: Box. A round golden grass box that can be used for storage and packaging. The skin of the dried stem of vetiver grass or kaincha is woven to produce utility and decorative items. The grass is first softened and then coiled with a needle to form strands. These braids are then woven to form the shape of the craft item and finished off with a coat of shine. Occasionally colored pigments are added to the grass.

Subject: Gaja udharana Besha of Lord Sri Jagannatha. Solapith craft uses the pith or soft inner core of the Indian cork tree for making decorative items. The pith is cut in different sizes and shapes for the design and assembled by glue. The pith is incised or removed to create ornamental designs and patterns. The Gaja udharana besha depicts an epic story of Lord Vishnu saving a helpless elephant from the clutches of a crocodile. The lower part of the stupa is constructed of stone and the upper part is built of brick that once must have been faced with stone. Adorning the bottom portion are eight arched projections with niches. In each niche there is a pedestal with a depression that must have been intended to hold the tenon projecting from the base of a sculpture; the sculptures likely were eight Buddha images.

The object was placed in the museum collection storage at the time of photography. This object has been gifted by Boyanika (Odisha State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society Ltd).
