Subject: The Demon Queen Rangda: Demon face between the feet of the witch goddess. Rangda is said to be the queen of the leyaks, a kind of witches or vampires as well as being mother of all demons, the butas and kalas.

Subject: Nursing witch-like figure, possibly Rangda's Assistant or the protective and nourishing aspect of Rangda. Possibly a protective and nourishing aspect of the witch-goddess. At times, the power of the dark divinity is required to give sufficient protection for the new life.

Subject: Gate to third (inner) court; Temple dedicated to Shiva. The sacred barong mask, covered with a white cloth, is stored in the pavilion partly visible to right. Barong is a mythical being who protects the world from being destroyed by Rangda. Their struggle, in which neither wins or loses, is re-enacted as powerful dance ceremonies. They express the belief that darkness and light are both part of life and can not exist without the other.
