Subject: Trasha (Banner). This appliqué trasha is a heart-shaped wooden piece covered by applique with a peacock and floral design. It is associated with the procession for deities and kings to show respect. Appliqué is an art of cutting and stitching stylized and bold cloth designs onto a piece of base cloth which could be mounted on a frame. Appliqué items such as this trasha are used for ritualistic practices as well as for decorative and utilitarian needs. Subject: Wall Hanging. This is an appliqué decorative wall hanging with two parrots within a floral design. Subject: Lord Jagannatha. This is an image of Lord Jagannatha made from many different varieties of seashells. Seashell craft has been a prominent art form in Puri and Konark since seashells are easily available next to the coast line. There are many varieties of shells with a range of patterns, textures and shapes. The shells are used for making decorative and utilitarian items. Subject: Mahishasuramardini. This is the figure of the Hindu Goddess Durga who is worshiped in her Mahishasuramardini form, during Durga Puja. This sculpture is made up of primarily zari fabric which is woven of silk and gold thread. This object has been procured by State Institute for Development of Arts & Crafts (SIDAC).
