Subject: Lower portion of a pillar shaft said to be from Ashoka's time. It was found in Gaya and was brought to Bodhgaya in 1956 , imagined to be its original location. The pillar bears no polish, characteristic of all of Ashoka's pillars, and there are no edicts inscribed on the shaft. The date and its original location are a matter of speculation.
