Subject: Weft (Bal Ghicha) for Sari. Ghicha yarn is obtained from cocoons that do not get included in the routine process of reeling in of Tussar silk directly from the cocoon. It is obtained mostly from pierced, cut, flimsy, insect damaged and double cocoons. Ghicha yarn is generally used as blend material with pure silk sarees or Katia silk or pure cotton sarees. Warp and weft are the two basic components used in weaving to turn thread or yarn into fabric. The lengthwise or longitudinal warp yarns are held stationary in tension on a frame or loom while the transverse weft is drawn through and inserted over-and-under the warp. This weft yarn is prepared for weaving a sari. This object was procured from Sri Bishnu Weaver Co-operative Society Ltd.
