Subject: Cotton Yarn. The natural coloring matter of silk is associated mainly with sericin which is eliminated during degumming. However, even after degumming, the residual pigments are adsorbed by fibroin and hence silk fabrics after degumming are not white but have cream or gray hue. Bleaching silk uses reducing agents or oxidizing agents to lighten the hue of the thread.

Subject: Bamboo Reed. A reed is part of a weaving loom that resembles a comb. It is used to separate and space the warp threads, to guide the shuttle's motion across the loom, and to push the weft threads into place.

Subject: Traditional Kancha. During separation and sizing of warp, the warp beam is stretched up to the width of the fabric to be woven. A brush made up of coconut fibers (kancha) is dipped in rice starch or another solution and applied to the warp. The process is repeated a few times before the warp is left to dry and then rolled up.
