Subject: Door Lintel. This lintel bears motifs of elephants and birds. Lintels in earliest Odishan temples indicated the deity to which a temple was dedicated. They have had an apotropaic or propitious function. Elaborate lintels have also been adopted in secular architecture where they beautify the entrance door frame in addition to indicating the ancestry of the dwellers.
