Subject: Srikrishna. This is Srikrishna painted and carved in wood. An essential part of growing up in Odisha is toys, dolls, puppets and masks from wood. These toys are richly colored and developed in a stylized form. Often, gambhari or beech wood, the local wood is used for the carvings as it has a fine texture and is light-cream color though other woods may also be used. Back view of the object.

Subject: Tussar Eri Sibori Saree. This saree has been made using the Shibori tie-and-dye technique from Japan. It has a traditional temple design border. The material is eri silk which is a variety of tussar cocoon. The saree has a purple colored body and black and yellow anchal (end). This saree was procured from Srikrishna Tassar and Silk WCS Ltd.

Subject: Bankachuda Besha of Lord Jagannatha. Solapith craft uses the pith or soft inner core of the Indian cork tree for making decorative items. The pith is cut in different sizes and shapes for the design and assembled by glue. The pith is incised or removed to create ornamental designs and patterns. The Bankachuda besha is done on the eleventh day of bright fortnight of month Kartika, to commemorate Lord Krishna. Lord Jagannatha wears a golden headgear in this besha. This object has been procured by State Institute for Development of Arts & Crafts (SIDAC).

Subject: Nabakeli. This straw craft image refers to Nabakeli, a pleasure trip by Krishna, on a boat rowed by the milkmaids or gopis in the Yamuna. Straw craft is created by placing straw strand by strand to form a sheet and then cutting the sheet to create a patchwork for the desired shape. This is pasted onto a black cloth that has been mounted on a board. Images created are usually historical or religious. This object has been loaned by State Institute for Development of Arts & Crafts (SIDAC).

Radha is the female counterpart of Krishna. Damodara is one of the names of Krishna. This Bhesa, therefore, highlights the great religious integration that took place in the Jagannatha temple with regard to the episodes of Radha and Krishna. This Bhesa takes place in the months of Asvina and Kartika. This object has been procured by Utkalika, Odisha State Co-operative Handicraft Corporation Ltd.
