Subject: The significance of this type is not fully understood, though its probable meaning is that of a representation of Kumaragupta about to renounce his throne for the devotional life. A female figure, perhaps his queen, and a male figure with Garuda-dhvaja, perhaps a general, are expostulating with him, perhaps to dissuade him from his intention. The legend APRATIGHA means "invincible" and should refer to Kumaragupta's resoluteness.; Three standing figures; the central figure, labeled "Kumaragupta" stands facing, hands clasped at his waist, with topknot, but no jewelry. To his right, a male figure standing, in attitude of argumentation (vitarka), a Garuda-dhvaja between them, above. To his left, a female in similar attitude, a crescent between them, above. [Gold Dinar, Obverse, Apratigha type]
