Subject: Thia Deepa (Standing Lamp). This is a vertically oriented lamp that is lit during rituals and prayers dedicated to deities.

Subject: Rukha Deepa. This is a stand that holds oil lamp with a cotton wick dipped in ghee or vegetable oils used during prayer rituals.

Subject: Seven Face Deepa (Lamp). A stone lamp that is often used for lighting during special occasions. Lamps also symbolically represent enlightenment or wisdom. Odisha’s most recognized craft is stone carving. Odisha’s maharanas (stone carvers) sculpt in stones with simple tools by first outlining the figure on a stone block. The outline is incised to mark the shape of the motif and then the figure is carved. Iconic stone carved sculptures and idols of Hindu deities are made for Odisha’s temples. Subject: Stand Dibi. A dibi is a kerosene lamp used as a light source.

Subject: Lamp Shade. Odisha is known for its lineage of skilled artisans of terracotta pottery. Terracotta crafts being water and weather proof are popular as indoor objects as well as outdoor decoration. Products range from those belonging to ritualistic ceremonies to artifacts, for example, this decorative lamp shade which is of both utilitarian and has artistic significance.

Subject: A square small pillar type object is a rare architectural specimen representing probably a lamp stand (dipadhara) containing three tiers of niche flanked by Indo-Scythian pilasters. Face 4, recovered from Jamalpur (Mathura)

Subject: Dhokra Deepa. The lamp has four tiers of lamps. The first tier at the bottom supports eight lamps, the second and third tiers support six lamps each and the fourth tier at the top supports two lamps. The lamp is lit with a cotton wick dipped in ghee or vegetable oils used during prayer rituals. At the bottom of the lamp there is a figure of an elephant and a motif of a bird on top. Subject: Jagara Deepa (Holy Lamp). Jagara Deepa is a kind of lamp that is generally used during shivratri. Paddy craft uses un-husked rice or paddy which is strung together using cotton thread to create chains, idols of deities, animal figures, garlands and floral arrangements and other votives.
