The Subu Henii, or the Mithun Chant, is performed on the first day of the Murung festival, and lasts for about 15 hours. The chant describes the beginning of the world and Apatani genealogy in order to summon spirits of prosperity. Only a skilled and respected nyibu can chant these verses. The Dulu Ayu (Meat Distribution Ayu) is chanted during the Murung festival. It is a form of verbal duelling to celebrate the sponsor of the festival. The chant tells the story of many different Murungs, hosted by different persons. The festivals are judged based how much meat is distributed. During the festival, the villagers sacrifice a couple of mithuns or cows to bring prosperity to the host family. The Myoko festival is a three week long annual festival, sponsored by a village every three years. The Myoko Ayu, about a monkey hunt, follows the Sikki Ayu. It tells the story of how the ancestors established a relationship with the spirits through a pig sacrifice, and brought prosperity to the host village. It is a tale of invitation, ritual errors, deceit, and reconciliation, and involves Abo Tani. Recorded on January 1, 2003 in Mudan Tage, Arunachal Pradesh.
